        Whitney Jensen

        Joined Boston Ballet in 2009

        Whitney Jensen began her ballet training in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the age of 10, she won a silver medal at Youth America Grand Prix. The following year, Jensen won the Hope of America Award. At the ages of 11 and 12, Jensen performed the role of Clara with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in New York City, relocated to New York and began training with Valentina Kozlova's Dance Conservatory of New York.

        During her training with Valentina Kozlova, Jensen received seven gold medals and one silver medal at competitions including Youth America Grand Prix, the World Ballet Competition, and Seoul International Dance Competition.  

        In 2008, Jensen participated in the 23rd Varna International Ballet Competition where she won the highest award possible, The Special Distinction Medal and Diploma. She was the first American to win this award, which has only been  awarded four times in Varna's 44 year history. She was also presented with the International Ballet Award.

        Jensen is a frequent guest artist for events including the 22nd Varna International Ballet Competition Gala; Miami International Ballet Festival; Baltic International Ballet Festival Gala in Riga, Latvia; the World Ballet Star Festival in Seoul, Korea; and The Nutcracker with the Hungarian National Ballet in Budapest, Hungary.

        Jensen joined Boston Ballet in 2009. She was promoted to second soloist in 2010 and to soloist in 2011. Her repertoire includes, Gamzatti in Florence Clerc's La Bayadère, mazurka variation in La Sylphide; Jiří Kylián's Petite Mort, Falling Angels, Tar and Feathers, Wings of Wax; Jorma Elo's Plan to B, Double Evil, Break the Eyes, Awake Only, Slice to Sharp, Sharper Side of Dark; Blue Bird in Frederick Ashton's The Sleeping Beauty; George Balanchine's Apollo (Polyhymnia), jumping pas de deux in Symphony in 3 Movements, fourth movement in Symphony in C, Tarantella; William Forsythe's The Second Detail; and Wayne McGregor's Chroma.
