        Lecture-Performance-Event Series

Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen today announces the launch of BB@home, a lecture-performance-event series designed to bring new audiences an innovative, intimate, and educational experience. Presented in the Company’s own ‘home’, its studio and headquarters at 19 Clarendon Street in the South End, the series will introduce Boston Ballet to the community in a unique ‘up close and personal’ setting.

BB@home kicks off on August 29, 2012 initiating the 2012-2013 season with a preview of the Company’s tour to Helsinki, Finland this fall. The second program in January 2013 will feature an interactive lecture on Boston Ballet’s 50 year history and 50th Anniversary. The third and final program of the season in June 2013 will feature a 50th Anniversary Tour Preview performance.

All BB@home events will take place at Boston Ballet’s newly renovated 19 Clarendon Street headquarters in Studio 7, the grand studio where Company dancers train and rehearse. Studio 7 has been transformed into a 144 seat state-of-the-art black box theatre, designed to provide an unmatched and intimate perspective for the Boston community to experience a variety of programming, including  dance, performance art, and educational programs.

The inaugural program will feature neo-classical and contemporary repertoire from the Company’s September tour to Helsinki with Christopher Wheeldon’s Polyphonia, Jorma Elo’s Plan to B, Helen Pickett’s Tsukiyo, and William Forsythe’s The Second Detail.

“The BB@home series opens the door to audiences who may not have considered ballet accessible or relevant to their lives,” said Nissinen. “We encourage the public to ‘Re-think Ballet’, and experience this evolving art form with an open mind. Never before has Boston Ballet had the opportunity to connect the community with the artists on such a personal level.”

For more information on Boston Ballet’s BB@home series visit: www.bostonballet.org/bb-at-home

Tickets $35. Call 617.695.6955 or come in person to 19 Clarendon Street, Mon-Fri, 9:30am-5:00pm
