Royal Ballet star Zenaida Yanowsky saves last dance for brother

        Publication London Evening Standard
        Date May 16, 2013
        Author Josh Pettitt

Two siblings from a great dancing dynasty hope to bow out together one day with a final joint performance.

As children, Zenaida Yanowsky and brother Yury travelled around Europe together watching their parents, Anatol Yanowsky and Carmen Robles, perform with the Lyon Opera Ballet. But over the past 20 years the two principal dancers have been based in different countries.

Zenaida, 38, joined the Royal Ballet in 1994 and Yury, 40, has been with the Boston Ballet. His company is coming here for the first time in 30 years on July 3 for four shows at the London Coliseum and the siblings have vowed to dance together.

Yury said: "I always have the idea that we started together we need to do something to finish together, it's just finding the right time and place."

Zenaida, who lives with her husband and two young children in Ealing, said: "When we went to competitions when we were younger it was always hard because there was only one prize." Her brother said this rivalry could explain why they chose different companies.

Zenaida is performing in Symphony in C at the Royal Opera House which opens on May 24 and Yury Yanowsky dances with Boston Ballet at the Coliseum 3 - 7 July.
